The four Gospels are formally anonymous works whose dates must be reconstructed from internal clues and their earliest citations. Most scholars place Mark in the late 60s AD, with Matthew and Luke following in the 70s–80s and John near the end of the first century — though serious arguments exist for earlier datings.
